Headquarter
Al Hayah is an independent Non-Governmental Developmental Organization which has been established since July 2004 and registered in the New Valley Governorate under number 194 for the year 2004.

The headquarter is a traditional mud brick building located in Farafra Oasis, which was to be used originally as a residence for the founders but after the establishment of the Association, it was decided to serve as premises for its activities.

Mrs. Taheya Elwy “one of the founders” contributes in managing the operations. Inside the headquarter, Al Hayah has provided all the equipment and tools for the activities taking place, including the production of traditional handmade objects such as hand woven wool products and clothing, carpet making, and basket weaving.



Mission Statement
Attaining a better standard of living for the people in Farafra through the realization of sustainable development on the economic, social, educational, environmental and health care levels using the best community development tools in line with the plans/ efforts of the Egyptian government to realize such development

AL HAYAH’s mission includes, but is not limited to the following:

1. Provide efficient operational collaboration with government agencies and aid donors;
2. Encourage official aid agencies and government ministries to adopt successful approaches developed by the association to service the community;
3. Serve as a conduit for new technology and practices;
4. Educate the population as to their rights and entitlements under government programs;
5. Attune official programs to public needs by acting as a conduit for public opinion and local experience;
6. Help national and local governments and donors fashion a more effective development strategy through strengthening institutions, staff training and improving management capacity.
7. Organizations which advocate for specific development objectives such as access to family planning services or improved infrastructure or liberalized tax laws for small business;
8. Analyze development problems such as poverty or environmental degradation and organize national and local debates and education programs on these issues;
9. Represent the common interests of the population on the social, educational, cultural and economic levels.



Aims and Objectives
• Promote sustainable development at the local level through the achievement of economic, social, and environmental objectives.
• Preserve the traditional, historical and environmental heritage as income generating and job creation tools.
• Create new employment opportunities, increase income levels and enhance the level of living.
• Provide technical assistance to increase local capacity and create new venues of activities, both commercial and service oriented.
• Establish centers to train and assist craftsmen and small entrepreneurs in order to revive the old crafts and create income generation activities.
• Organize fairs and create new markets (both locally and externally) in order to market the local crafts.
• Ensure the sustainability of proper services that are necessary for the enhancement of the living standard.
• Inform the community of the variety of services provided by the government such as different educational and health care programs.
• Focus on women and children in working hand in hand with the disadvantaged sections of the society, as a means to teach them to help themselves and look forward to a better and brighter future.
• Protect the natural environment of the Protectorate of the White Desert and work on solving environmental problems in the area especially the garbage problem in Farafra.
• On the cultural level, Preserve the traditional cultural heritage of the oasis and promote new cultural activities in Farafra as well as organize cultural seminars and other cultural events.
